I simboli della cosa, la cosa nei simboli

There are not many symbols that portray books, in fact, most of them are just related to book editors. This 3 examples that I decided to explore below are the ones that I found more interesting and appeling, and that use the book in a more complex way.

Designer: Olivier Courbet

Brand description: Circus of Magazines is an online marketplace for magazines where magazine and book lovers can gather to buy, sell and/or exchange magazines.

Logo description: this logo was designed by Olivier Courbet, a freelancer designer, and combines an open book and a circus, in order to represent this especific online community and its respective website. The symbol appears as an open book, related to the magazines; but also to a circus tent, related to the name of the website. The book portrayed allows the viewer to understand what the site is about but also to relate it to a circus and, therefore, remember easily the company's name.
With this logo, Olivier Courber won the Wolda award in 2009.

Brand description: Founded in 1586 in the United Kingdom, it is the largest university press in the world. It is a departement of the Oxford University and is governed by a group of 15 academics known as the delegates of the press.

Logo description: The logo is developed in the form of a crest, where we can see a sort of frame on the outside, and inside we can see 3 crowns and also an open book. In this book it can be read: "dominus illuminatio mea", which means "Lord is my light". The book in this logo refers to the fact of the brand being known for printing books, and couldn't be portrayed with any other symbol. The book here serves not only for showing this, but also for presenting this latim quote, something that was many common in crests and logos of the time.

Brand description: WinRAR was developed by Eugene Roshal and is a trialware file archiver utility for Windows. It can create and view archives in RAR or ZIP file formats, and unpack numerous archive file formats.

Logo description: This logo is composed by 3 books, stacked together and holded by a belt. This icon meants to portray a program that can compact lots of files together, so that is nothing better to show it than a book, where we can have a lot of information held within. The fact that this program meants to contain many compressed files and data, the book is a clever way to illustrate that because it also contains lots of information and stories in a contained and compressed way.
